Emerging Leadership Program to drive positive changes

Mallee Sustainable Farming is excited to announce the launch of an Emerging Leadership Program, a five-day leadership development initiative designed for adults aged 18 to 30 years who are passionate about creating thriving futures in Victorian Mallee communities through collective leadership.

The program is facilitated by the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation (ARLF) under the Future Drought Fund’s Helping Regional Communities Prepare for Drought Initiative. It aims to foster self-awareness, community engagement, resilience, leadership skills, and the ability to create positive change while considering diverse perspectives and community well-being in the context of future droughts and climate change. Open to individuals aged 18 to 30-years, who have a desire to set goals for their future and contribute to their community, the program provides practical skills in leadership, communication, managing change and networking.

“The Australian Rural Leadership Foundation has delivered over 126 leadership programs in the last 30 years, dedicated to building thriving remote, rural and regional communities. Just over the past 3 years, we have run leadership programs in over 25 communities across the country, building local leadership capacity and networks to bring new understanding, perspective and skills to move forward,” ARLF Chief Executive Matt Linnegar said.

“These leadership development activities build social capital to support people in the region. We get to connect local networks, create a deeper sense of shared purpose and develop capability that helps people to take action and address challenges and make the most of opportunities.”

Participants also gain access to the wider alumni network of the ARLF.

“It’s these connections that prove invaluable to people. When they’re stuck, there’s someone to ask for advice.”

The Emerging Leadership Program is a vital component of the $29.6 million Australian Government’s Future Drought Fund-supported Helping Regional Communities Prepare for Drought Initiative. This national Initiative combines and builds on previous programs to deliver tailored support in getting agriculture-dependent communities across remote, rural and regional Australia more prepared and resilient to the impacts of drought and changing climate. It is delivered by the Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal (FRRR), in partnership with the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation, and supported by local community organisations, including Mallee Sustainable Farming.

Mallee Sustainable Farming are proud to work with FRRR and the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation, leveraging their expertise and networks that span remote, rural and regional Australia. Together, we are committed to empowering our community and facilitating positive changes that make a lasting impact.

The program will be held over 2 x 2.5 day sessions on 12-14 June & 15-17 July at Pine Plains Lodge, Big Desert.
