Project Title: Increasing production on sandy soils in low and medium rainfall areas of the Southern Region
Key Words: SA Mallee trials sands, sandy soil, poor yield
- Where non-wetting is a major constraint, options that improve crop establishment are critical in dry seasons.
- Physical constraints to crop water use are apparent at all of our Mallee sites and a range of options (ripping, spading, seeder disturbance) have produced significant changes in crop productivity and the level of compaction.
- Poor fertility is an issue but identifying strategies with economic and long-lasting effects is more challenging.
