Project Title: Improving ground cover options with legume production in sands
Peer Review: Tanja Morgan (MSF)
Key Words: Sandy soils, Lupin, Lentil, Field Pea, Vetch, Chickpea, Canola, Deep Ripping, Fertiliser
- Poor production of legume crops growing on Mallee sandy soils leaves these soils vulnerable to soil erosion.
- Deep ripping sandy soil prior to sowing the crop increased growth and production of legume crops by 22-63%.
- Nutrient inputs above and beyond current fertiliser strategies had no impact on the growth of legume crops.
