Mallee

In a groundbreaking decision, the 2024 David Roget Award is proudly presented to the Lowbank Ag Bureau, a collective force in the farming community. Known for their proactive approach and mutual support, this group stands out for its dedication to enhancing farm sustainability through research and extension activities.

Mallee Sustainable Farming has been busy delivering the Mallee CMA’s latest forage shrubs project over the past few months, with funding from the Australian Government’s Future Drought Fund.

This project has been funded to help Mallee farmers tackle wind erosion with practical ways of improving and maintaining groundcover on erosion-prone soils.

There are two main themes in the project:

1. Promoting cropping practices that improve crop performance and leave more ground cover

2. Promoting forage shrubs and livestock containment designs to broaden the livestock feedbase and protect groundcover on vulnerable soils.
